Whangapoua information
Whangapoua Village is situated on the east coat of the Coromandel Peninsula, just 25 minutes drive over from the township of Coromandel and shares the same beautiful coastline as Matarangi, Whitianga, Opito bay, Kuaotunu and New Chums Beaches. The drive from Auckland is just 2 1/2 hours.
The wharf and safe Boat Ramp facilities at Whangapoua Harbour and estuary provide convenient water access for boats at all tides. A choice of many swimming and surfing localities give all age groups an opportunity to enjoy the sea in safety at low and high water tides. The main Whangapoua beach for swimming, boogy boarding and surfing. The Whangapoua Estuary and Harbour for those who wish to swim and canoe or water ski in crystal clear water, and the estuary is ideal for families with young children away from the surf. The famous New Chums Beach (accessible only by boat or on foot from Whangapoua Village) usually whets the appetite of the more adventurous surfer and swimmer!
